The WiSENT 2 is the world's most advanced multifunctional vehicle platform. It is based on the Leopard 2 main battle tank chassis – one of the most successful tracked vehicles in the world. The WiSENT 2 thus benefits from an all-round mature design that has proven itself in combat by absolute safety and reliability. With the WiSENT 2, FFG offers a support vehicle that has been specially developed for current requirements and operational scenarios.
The WiSENT 2 is a modular platform that can be used in recovery, engineering, mine-clearing or bridge-laying roles. Due to its modular design the WiSENT 2 can be converted from recovery to engineering roles in less than 5 hours. Several nations already have this concept in use.
Support
Its configuration as recovery vehicle makes the WiSENT 2 a real powerhouse. With a crane system for loads of up to 32 t and a 40 t main winch, it is versatile. A combat recovery system enables equipment to be recovered and towed under armoured protection.
In its configuration as pioneer tank, the WiSENT 2 impresses with a modern articulated arm excavator for earth movements of 300 cubic meters per hour, as well as a special pioneer clearing blade.
Protection
Even in the basic configuration, the crew is ballistically protected up to Level 5 in accordance with NATO STANAG 4569. The integrated mine protection ensures safety up to and including level 4. The overall concept of the WiSENT 2 is completed by numerous other features such as add-on armour, protection against ordnance from above and ERA (Explosive Reactive Armor).
WiSENT 2 ARV
The WiSENT 2 Armoured Recovery Vehicle (ARV) was developed to provide the best possible support to combat vehicles in distress. For this purpose, a crane was developed that enables to loads to be lifted of over 32 tons. The main winch was designed to provide a constant pulling force. In addition, the ARV is equipped with an auxiliary winch that helps pull the main winch rope into position or enable recovery operations of smaller vehicles. The WiSENT 2 ARV also offers the capability to carry a Leopard 2 spare engine. With 1,500 hp, the WiSENT 2 ARV can reach a speed of approximately 68 km/h at a maximum weight of 69.5 tons. The attached Combat Recovery System CRS® enables the 3-man crew to recover vehicles under armour. To enable fast and safe recovery, the Combat Recovery System CRS® is equipped with a special camera system.

WiSENT 2 AEV
The WiSENT 2 Armoured Engineering Vehicle (AEV) supports engineer troops with a wide range of functions and high performance with the use of the articulated excavator or the dozer blade.
Optimized for the entire spectrum of engineering tasks, the WiSENT 2 can be used both offensively to increase the mobility of own troops and defensively to inhibit and channel enemy forces.
Offensive core tasks here are:
- Clearing obstacles
- Creation of entrances/exits and fords
- Opening lines for movement in urban environment
The articulated arm excavator has a digging capacity of more than 300 cubic meters per hour and a bucket volume of 1.3 cubic meters. The excavator arm can also be used for lifting loads with a lifting capacity of 4 tons. By using a hoisting winch this lifting capacity can be increased to 8 t so that the AEV is thus able to lift its own engine, for example, if required.
Furthermore, an integrated welding and cutting device is available for pioneering applications.
Optionally, an "Auxiliary Power Booster (APB)" based on a lithium battery solution is available, which can ensure the duration of a silent watch operation for hours.

Of course, the WiSENT 2 also provides highly valuable support in disaster control and peacekeeping missions, such as natural disasters, reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure or complex recovery operations.
WiSENT 2 MC
Tactical mine clearance is one of the most demanding tasks in the field. To enable armies around the globe to perform this task quickly, safely and reliably, FFG has developed the WiSENT 2 Mine clearing (MC). To support subsequent units with safe, cleared routes, it is possible to convert the WiSENT 2 in ARV or AEV configuration to the WiSENT 2 MC configuration. For this, the WiSENT 2 MC is equipped with a full-width mine low system replacing the existing support/clearance blade, which is in service with several nations around the world. In addition, the WiSENT 2 MC is equipped with a lane marking system that enables following troops to pass routes safely.

WiSENT 2 BL
In its role as a bridge layer, the WiSENT 2 gains the additional capability to carry and deploy tactical short bridges.
The WiSENT 2 bridge layer (BL) is based on the AEV configuration, which can be adapted in a very short time to make it possible to transport and lay an MLC 80 short bridge. For the laying process, only the excavator bucket is put down via the hydraulic quick coupling of the excavator arm and exchanged for a bridge mount. This excavator arm/bridge interface remains on the bridge as a movable kit after the laying process and is used for the subsequent resumption of the bridge.
In its bridge laying function the WiSENT 2 is designed in such way that it can still be used as an armoured engineer vehicle (AEV). Here too, modularity ensures the widest possible range of applications.
